The transgenic construct contains the lacZ reporter under the control of a 10 kb Isl1 fragment. The Isl1 insert consists of a region beginning 8.5 kb downstream of the transcription start site and ending 7 kb downstream of the transcription stop site, and including an enhancer regulatory element. LacZ reporter activity parallels endogenous gene expression in the developing heart as well as visceral and posterior mesoderm. (J:212308)
