The transresponder transgene contains mouse Hoxd4 cDNA under the control of the VP-16 responsive HSV immediate early (IE) promoter. A c-myc (Myc) epitope tag and SV40 poly-A sequence is inserted at the 3' end of the coding region. Transgene expression is activated when a transresponder mouse is combined with a transactivator mouse carrying the viral coactivator VP16 under the control of a promoter of interest. Expression is limited to regions in the mouse embryo where VP16 is present. (J:48458)
