The 1N4R brain isoform of human MAPT (microtubule associated protein, tau) is expressed under the control of the mouse neuron-specific prion protein (PrP) promoter. Hemizygous mice exhibit approximate 12-fold overexpression of human tau relative to endogenous mouse tau and show consistent transmission of approximately 143+/-20 copies of the transgene.
