This transgene consists of a murine Prnp mini-gene with two point mutations, G to A and A to C, at nucleotide positions 506 and 518, that affect the structure of the globular domain. This results in a mouse-elk Prnp chimeric molecule termed rigid loop Prnp. This line has approximately 45 copies of the transgene and expresses about 2- to 3-fold of wild-type levels in the brain.
