A SNP (T in non-suppressor strains, C in suppressor strains) in the promoter results in cis-mediated increase in transcript expression in suppressor strains. Strains A/J, AKR/J, BALBcJ, C3H/HeJ, DBA/2J, FVB/NJ, SJL/J and 129S1/SvlmJ were identified by their ability to suppress the prolonged circadian period observed in Clockm1Jt heterozygotes compared with C57BL/6, C58/J, BTBR, I/LnJ, MA/MyJ, JF1/Ms, MOLF/EiJ and CZECHII/EiJ.
