The targeting construct introduced loxP sites flanking exons 4 and 5 and a FRT-flanked neomycin resistance cassette following the second loxP site. The selection cassette was deleted by crossing mice carrying the original targeted allele with mice expressing flpe recombinase in the germline. Expression of Cre recombinase then deleted 221 base pairs of the gene encompassing exon 4, intron 4 and exon 5. (J:199857)
