A loxP site was inserted upstream of exon 5 and an FRT flanked neomycin selection cassette followed by a second loxP site was inserted downstream. Exon 5 is thus flanked by loxP SITES. Exon 5 was then removed from properly targeted mice by cre excision. (J:194250)
