These mice expressed photoconvertible Kaede in all of the cell types analyzed with no abnormality in their growth and reproduction. Kaede is a photoconvertible GFP cloned from stony coral. Exposure of Kaede to light induces unique peptide cleavage and subsequent formation of a double bond within the Kaede chromophore and changes its excitation and emission wavelengths. This change from green to red fluorescence can be detected easily with a conventional fluorescence microscope. (J:143952)
