An EGFP-IRES-cre-construct was introduced to the first exon of Wisp3, retaining the gene's ATG translation initiation site. No full-length Wisp3 transcripts can be detected by RT-PCR. Donating investigator indicates that expression of EGFP (enhanced green fluorescence protein) cannot be visualized by fluorescence microscopy. Hetero- and homozygous mice show no apparent phenotype. When males mutants are crossed with animals carrying a conditional (floxed) allele, cre-mediated recombination is observed in 100% of offspring. (Females occasionally also express cre in germ cells but at the precise stage is unclear. Cre-mediated recombination is observed in 7% of offspring from females.)There is little or no expression of cre in most other tissues examined, including muscle, kidney, bone, liver, and lung. Occasional recombination in brain, cartilage, and heart is seen. (J:179652, J:201718)
