Duplication of Hoxd11 was accomplished via trans-allelic meiotic recombination (TAMERE): Cre recombinase-mediated recombination occurred in vivo between loxP sites that had been introduced, independently, by homologous recombination in embryonic stem cells into the intergenic region upstream of Hoxd11 on one copy and the intergenic region downstream of Hoxd11 on another copy of Chr 2. The resulting unequal recombination produced the present duplication and a reciprocal deletion of Hoxd11. (J:80090)
