Homologous recombination replaced a segment of genomic DNA located between Hbb-bh0 and Hbb-bh1 with a loxP site flanked neomycin resistance gene cassette. The segment of DNA replaced extended from 7500 bp downstream of the epsilon y-globin transcription start site to 8231 bp downstream (731 bp). The selectable marker was subsequently removed by crossing to Tg(CMV-cre)1Cgn transgenic mice. (J:173283)
