A self-excising neomycin resistance cassette, containing a mouse testes-specific Ace promoter, cre recombinase and neomycin resistance genes, replaced a fragment between -2806 and -2078 bp that codes for a common element in the promoter. This element has been shown to mediate differential regulation of hypothalamic and ovarian expression. Quantitative RT-PCR analysis of brain and ovary tissue from homozygous female mice found reduced expression in the brain during diestrus and proestrus but increased expression in the ovary during diestrus and proestrus. In homozygous males hypothalamic expression was reduced. (J:170674)
