A cre-IRES-EGFP was knocked into exon 2 of the Avil locus to achieve cre expression specifically within sensory neurons. Authors state that only male, not female, knockin animals are useful for sensory neuron-specific cre expression. The EGFP is nonfunctional. (J:160568, J:169302)
