The transgene, inserted into the apolipoprotein locus between the Apoa1 and Apoc3 genes, comprises a single copy of a construct consisting of the liver specific albumin promoter/enhancer, a synthetic cDNA encoding a secreted, hybrid renin protein with a C-terminal Myc epitope tag, and, immediately downstream of the translation termination codon, a 75 bp synthetic AU rich element (ARE) including the domain I sequence of the RNA destabilizing element of the Fos gene, which reduces the half-life of the mRNA.
