The THpPLAP transgene was designed with the human Placental Alkaline Phosphatase (ALPP or hPLAP) gene driven by a rat tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) promoter, a simian virus 40 (SV40) intervening sequence, and SV40 polyadenylation site. This line contains 50 copies of the transgene. PLAP intensely labels the outer surface of the cell membrane of TH-expressing dopamine (DA) releasing, catecholaminergic amacrines of the retina and the dopaminergic neurons of the brain, including those of the substantia nigra, VTA and olfactory bulb. Furthermore they label, less intensely, the neurons of the locus coeruleus (norepinephrine) and, weakly, the type 2 catecholaminergic amacrines of the retina (transmitter unknown). (J:157684)
