A lacZ gene with a nuclear localization signal was inserted 17 codons downstream of the translation initiation site to create an in frame fusion. This insertion deletes all but the first 17 codons of the coding region. Transient cre expression in ES cells removes the floxed neo cassette downstream of the lacZ gene. (J:155032)
