This transgene contains 4.6 kb of DNA from the mouse desmin gene (nucleotides -4005 to +608), including 5' regulatory sequences, the 5' untranslated region (UTR) and exon 1 through nucleotide +608, driving expression of Cre recombinase with a nuclear localization signal. This promoter has been shown to direct expression in the heart from embryonic day (E) 7.5 and in skeletal muscle and some vascular smooth muscle cells from E9.5. (J:65247, J:82809)
