The transgene comprises the rearranged immunoglobulin kappa light chain (Igk) gene, combining an Igk-V8 and the Igk-J5 segment, of the hybridoma cell line H220-17. It encodes the light chain of most primary antibodies generated in BALB/c mice against the antigenic site, Sb, of the hemagglutinin (HA) of influenza virus A/PR/8/34 (PR8), for which H220-17 is specific. Transgene derived transcripts are detected by northern blot analysis in spleen, but not in liver, and none were detected by dot blot analysis in any non-lymphoid tissue tested. (J:121575)
