A 6142 bp segment located from 16.3-22.5 kb downstream of Mef2c exon 1 and 48.9-55.1 kb upstream of the first coding exon (exon 5) and including the non-coding exon 3, was used to direct lacZ expression using the Hspa1b minimal promoter. LacZ expression was restricted to the anterior heart field of embryos which includes pharyngeal mesoderm, the right ventricle, and the outflow tract. Expression is not observed in the adult.
