The 5' end of the gene trap vector is inserted into intron 3, 28 bp upstream of the beginning of exon 4. In addition a large portion of the gene (intron 4 to exon 10) cannot be amplified in homozygous mice, indicating that the gene trap insertion is accompanied by an intragenic deletion spanning 7 exons. No beta-galactosidase activity is detected in homozygous or heterozygous embryos. (J:154370)
