The gene trap vector inserted into the second intron of the gene. At 2 months of age, there is an 50% reduction in gene expression in the kidney of the homozygous genetrap mouse compared with wild-type, suggesting that this mutation is a hypomorph. Expression of an alternative transcript of the gene appears to be unaffected by the gene trap insertion, suggesting a mechanism for the hypomorphic mutation. (J:238836)
