A fragment containing the CAG promoter, loxP-flanked chloramphenicol acetyl transferase (cat) gene and the adjacent beta-galactosidase gene used to generated transgenic mice. When crossed to cre-expressing mice, the loxP-flanked sequence will be excised in the progeny of the cross, resulting in expression of lacZ in cre-expressing tissues. (J:147388)
