This mutation was identified in an ex vivo screen of macrophages from G3 progeny of ENU mutagenized male mice for their ability to control viral infection. It comprises an A to T transition in the second of nine exons, which is the first coding exon of the gene, converting the methionine/translation initiation codon at nucleotide position 221 of the cDNA sequence to a codon specifying valine.
