A beta-galactosidase gene was fused in-frame to exon 2 and exons 3 through 5 were deleted. A floxed neomycin selection cassette was included for targeting purposes and then subsequently removed by crossing founder mice with Zp3-cre transgenic mice. LacZ transcript but not endogenous transcript was detected by RT-PCR analysis of E10.5 embryos. (J:144707)
