A segment of exon 2 was targeted for replacement by a cassette consisting of the -galactosidase gene and the neomycin resistance gene, shifting the downstream sequence out of reading frame. Gene inactivation was confirmed by immunoblot analysis of protein extracts obtained from intestinal epithelial cells. Expression of the neighboring caspase genes Casp1 and Casp4 were unaffected in these mice. (J:144912)
