The transgene consists of the human GFAP promoter fused to murine Beta-2 microglobulin, B2m. Six founders resulted from the microinjection of the GFAP-B2m construct into NOD/LtJ oocytes. Founder Western blot analysis and histological analysis of brain, specifically astrocytes and pancreas, specifically the peri-islet Schwann cells, from transgenic animals confirmed transgene expression.
