A loxP site was inserted into intron 1 and a loxP-flanked neomycin resistance cassette was placed into intron 6. After transient expression of Cre recombinase, ES cells with deletion of just the neo cassette were selected. Mice derived from these cells have loxP sites flanking exons 2 through 6, which encode the extracellular and transmembrane domains of the protein (J:22521)
