The rearranged heavy chain VDJ gene segments and the IgM constant domain were isolated from the murine B cell clone 3H9. Transgenic mice were generated and expression of the transgene confirmed by primer extension analysis of spleen RNA. The heavy chain expressed by this transgene is able to heterodimerize with endogenous Ig light chains to produce IgM antibodies that have a high affinity for DNA similar to the antibody produced by the 3H9 clone.
