To generate the transgene, a fragment containing a tandem array of 7 copies of the tetracycline operator sequence and a cytomegalovirus minimal promoter was placed in front of the SV40 large T antigen gene. The promoter does not allow expression of the TAg gene, and transgenic mice do not develop tumors, unless crossed with mice expressing a tetracycline transactivator gene (tTA or rtTA). (J:56326)
