A 15-kB genomic fragment containing the entire human renin gene and including 3Kb of 5' flanking region and 3'flanking region was used to create transgenic mice. Copy number is estimated to be 2 or more. High levels of mRNA encoding human renin are found in transgenic mouse kidney, and significant levels are detected in brain, lung, thymus, testis and spleen. Low levels are detectable in heart, pancreas and stomach. In addition to line 8-12, lines 8-3 and 8-5 were also created, but these lines express at lower levels than line 8-12. (J:129503)
