4 copies of a selection cassette containing a loxP flanked exon 1 and a frt flanked neomycin resistance gene inserted in tandem into exon 1. In situ hybridization on brains of homozygotes indicated that the multiple repeats disrupted gene expression. Expression of adjacent genes was not affected as determined by in situ hybridization.
