This transgene contains the chicken beta-actin promoter and the cytomegalovirus immediate-early (CMV-IE) enhancer driving expression of a fusion gene consisting of the enhanced green fluorescent protein coding sequence joined to the full-length open reading frame of the human TSC22 domain family, member 1 gene. A human salivary gland tumor cell line stably transfected with the same construct minus the beta-actin promoter exhibits fluorescence in the cytoplasm, but not in the nucleus; when cells of this line are induced to undergo apoptosis by treatment with 5-fluorouracil, the fluorescent fusion protein is translocated to the nucleus.
