This transgene consists of the full coding sequence of the mouse Abcc9 (Sur2a) gene under the control of the human cytomegalovirus immediate-early (CMV) promoter. RT-PCR and Western blot analysis confirmed an increase in mRNA and protein levels, respectively, resulting in an increased number of sarcolemmal KATP channels but not affecting the expression of any other KATP channel pore-forming proteins.
