Exon 1 was disrupted by the insertion of a nuclear lacZ gene and neo cassette. The transcription initiation codon, signal peptide and the following 46 amino acids were removed. Northern blot analysis failed to detect transcript in kidney samples from homozygous mutants. (J:105264)
