A bacterial lacZ gene was inserted into the gene such that the endogenous gene promoter drives expression of beta-galactosidase. RT-PCR analysis on samples from heterozygous mice detects a gene transcript at high levels in testis and at lower levels in skin, urinary bladder, pituitary gland, adrenal gland, epididymis, coagulating gland, white fat, and most othe tissues examined; beta-galactosidase expression is detectable in brain, spinal cord, sciatic nerve, aorta, heart, lung, liver, pancreas, kidney, urinary bladder, thyroid gland, trachea, pituitary gland, adrenal glands, skeletal muscle, skin, testis, prostate gland, ovary, uterus and cervix.
