A bacterial lacZ gene was inserted into the gene such that the endogenous gene promoter drives expression of beta-galactosidase. RT-PCR analysis detects a high level of gene transcript in spleen, lymph nodes and ovary, moderate levels in cerebellum, lung, liver, pancreas, kidney, thymus, bone marrow, skin, gallbladder, urinary bladder, pituitary gland, adrenal gland, salivary gland, colon, epididymis, seminal vesicle, coagulating gland, uterus and white fat, and low levels in whole brain, cortex, subcortical region, brainstem, olfactory bulb, spinal cord, eye, Harderian glands, heart, skeletal muscle, tongue, stomach, small intestine, cecum, testis and prostate gland. However, faint beta-galactosidase expression from this allele is detectable in only in whole mount brain.
