An IRES-lacZ gene was inserted into and replaced 134 nucleotides of exon 2. The deleted region includes sequences encoding the catalytic active site as well as most of the putative muscle regulatory factor-binding enhancer. The highest levels of RNA transcripts are detectable in pancreas, adrenal gland and white fat. Moderate levels of RNA transcripts are detectable in: olfactory bulb, heart, lung, thymus, skin, gallbladder, testis, epididymis and coagulating gland. Lower levels of RNA transcripts are also detectable in: whole brain, cortex, subcortical region, cerebellum, brainstem, spinal cord, eye, Harderian glands, liver, kidney, spleen, lymph nodes, bone marrow, urinary bladder, pituitary gland, salivary gland, skeletal muscle, tongue, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, cecum, seminal vesicle, prostate gland and uterus. LacZ expression was detected in all organs examined. (J:148803)
