Cre recombinase cDNA and a PGK-neo were inserted at the ATG to replace the first two coding exons. Immunohistochemical staining demonstrated cre-expressing cells with high density in the cerebral cortex, hippocampus, amgdala and thalamus and with low density in the olfactory system, septal region, basal ganglia, hypothalamus, brainstem and spinal cord.
