The transgene expresses the mutant human amyloid protein precursor APPSweInd, which bears both the Swedish (K670N/M671L) and the Indiana (V717F) mutations, under the control of the Syrian hamster prion protein promoter. Transgenic mice express the App protein in brain at approximately 5 times the level of control mice. High level production of the pathogenic Abeta42 form of the Abeta peptide is seen by three months of age. (J:69967)
