Cre mediated excision was used to remove exon 2, containing most of the 5' untranslated region and 171 of 882 amino acids of the open reading frame, containing the signal peptide, cytoplasmic tail, transmembrane region and part of the catalytic domain. Western blot of mutant embryo extract demonstrated lack of protein. In situ hybridization of E11.5 embryos failed to detect reactivity using an antisense riboprobe.
