Insertion of an in-frame lacZ gene and a loxP site flanked neomycin resistance gene cassette replaced the translated portion of the first coding exon and the proximal part of the next intron, and placed lacZ under the transcriptional control of the endogenous promoter. In addition, the 1st intronic enhancer (Rr176) was deleted. The floxed neo cassette was subsequently removed by crossing to cre-deleter mice. (J:109435)
