Cre recombinase cDNA and a neomycin resistance gene were inserted into the second exon to be expressed by the endogenous locus. Histological staining of mutants demonstrated cre was expressed exclusively in Purkinje cells of cerebellum and in bipolar neurons of retina. (J:98285)
