Exons 3 and 4 and part of 5 were replaced with a PGK-neo cassette in the reverse orientation, causing a downstream frame shift. The deleted sequence encompassed the extracellular domain of the gene and encoded the cystein-rich repeats. RT-PCR analysis of mutants confirmed the lack of functional gene transcription in small bowel extracts. (J:96816)
