An IRES-lacZ gene replaced exons 2, 3, and 4. In situ analysis confirmed the absence of endogenous protein in the testis. RT-PCR showed a very low level of transcript expression in the testis that is likely due to read through of the IRES-lacZ cassette. This mutant transcript cannot produce functional protein due to frameshift mutations. (J:88649)
