A chicken beta actin promoter drives the expression of the fusion gene Ica1/EGFP, which encodes an islet cell autoantigen 1 (Ica1) molecule in which a full-length enhanced green florescent protein (EGFP) replaces the Ica1 natural 3'-stop codon. Tissue fluorescence is strongest in the heart, intermediate in the exocrine pancreas and kidney and weak in the liver. Tissue fluorescence is observed in isolated transgenic islets. No fluorescence was observed in the brain, thymocytes or spleen cells.
