Exon 6 was replaced upon the insertion of an nLacZ-neo cassette in frame with amino acid 162. The deleted region encodes the nuclear localization sequence and the complete deacetylase catalytic domain. Mutant heart and brain samples demonstrated a lack of wild-type mRNA by RT-PCR analysis.
