1.85 kb of the gene including the initiation codon and 1689 bp of the 5' coding sequence was replaced with a promoterless LacZ-PGK-neo. Mutant mice failed to produce LacZ expression, either due to a mislocalization of the reporter gene downstream of the promoter region or the removal of important regulatory regions after recombination. Immunoblot of protein extracts from H5V cells and placenta from mutants demonstrated a lack of product from three out of four epitope peptides. (J:94272)
