A neomycin gene replaced the first coding exon and flanking sequences. Northern blot of of homozygote brain extracts indicated the presence of a truncated mRNA. Western blot analysis of brain homogenates derived from homozygous mice confirmed that no detectable encoded protein was made though the only available antibodies target the amino terminus.
