Exon 3 was replaced with a neomycin resistance gene in opposite transcription orientation. The deletion created an early frame-shift mutation that caused termination of the reading frame upstream of its dimerization and DNA binding domains. Western blot indicated a lack of protein in brains of mutants. (J:93761)
