The mouse Mt1 (metallothionein 1) promoter and flanking DNA (-588 to +68) were fused to the bacterial lacZ gene with a nuclear localization sequence. The construct was inserted into the EcoRI site of a vector that carries 10kb of sequence flanking Mt2 and 7kb flanking the Mt1 gene. These flanking sequences contain ribonuclease-hypersensitive sites thought to be important for enhanced expression. (J:92451)
